7 DAYS GREAT WILDEBEEST MIGRATION CALVING SEASON (DECEMBER-APRIL)

Overview

It is 7 days 6 nights safari that include Tarangire and Serengeti National Parks, and Ngorongoro Crater. The Great Wildebeest Calving Migration Safari has been designed specifically to focus on following the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during calving season from December to April, which mostly takes place in the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas, Ngorongoro. In this particular period the majority of the wildebeest are usually spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena, and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin-packed kills. A visit to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is part of this safari as well.

Itinerary

Pick up at Kilimanjaro International Airport with our representative and transferred to Arusha town, for overnight at Mout Meru hotel/Gran Melia Arusha. You will meet your driver guide who will brief you on upcoming safaris, after which you can rest until the next day morning.

After early breakfast in Arusha, drive to Tarangire National Park for game drive. A three hours drive from Arusha town. Proceeding with a game drive until 13.00 pm where you shall have a short break for lunch that shall be served in one of the picnic sites inside the park. Continue with game drive after lunch until evening where you will be heading to Bouganivilla lodge/Ngorongoro farm house for dinner and overnight stay. Tarangire National Park is famous as the home of giants (elephants and baobab trees), Tarangire river; the permanent source of water that refugee lots of migratory mammals and birds in all seasons, varieties of antelopes, giraffes, lions, plenty of bird species and Silale swamps which act as a refuge for wildlife during dry season.

Early breakfast in the morning followed by four hours drive to Ndutu. Lunch shall be served at the lodge in ndutu and then proceed with a half-game drive until 17.00 pm where you will be heading to Lake Masek tented lodge/ndutu under canvas tented camp for dinner and overnight stay. Ndutu is an area situated north of the Ngorongoro Crater and along with Lake Masek, they are part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Actually, they are an integral element of the Serengeti ecology and the great migration. This place is teeming with wildlife year-round but the peak season in terms of diversity is between December and April. This is the time when wildebeest give birth to countless calves and therefore makes up one of the highlights of the Great Migration. Predators are drawn to the young herbivores, creating a dramatic tableau of fresh life and death in the southern Serengeti.

After breakfast early in the morning, we will set off to Serengeti National Park with packed lunch. It is two hours drive. On the way you will explore a great range of various habitats such as swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains. Lunch and dinner shall be served at Seronera Safari lodge/Nyikani Camp Serengeti is the park with the world’s highest density of large mammals. Expect to encounter a variety of animals, including buffalo, warthongs, giraffes, hippos and elephant. The central Serengeti is the best ideal location to witness the endangered leopards and other big cats

Day 5 :
Serengeti

After breakfast early in the morning, we will set off for game drive at central Serengeti to spot crepuscular animals which are active early in the morning, continue with game driving to see the large population of about two millions wildebeest moving from one place to another. In the afternoon there will be a short break for lunch at one of the picnic sites then continuing with game drive till 4:00pm when you will be taken back to Seronera Safari lodge/Mawe Tented Camp/Lobo wildlife lodge/Kirawira Serena Camp for dinner and overnight stay

After breakfast, proceed with game drive en route with packed lunch to Ngorongoro Conservation Area via Oldupai Gorge, an archeological and paleontological site. Lunch will be taken at Naabi gate picnic site. On the way expect to see and experience Masai people who co-exist with wild animals, a spectacular endless plain, and diversity of animals, kopjes and more importantly history of mankind (Anthropisecus Boisei). Dinner and overnight stay will be at Ngorongoro Wildlife lodge/Ngorongoro Serena lodge in Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Wake up early in the morning for breakfast. Descent on Ngorongoro Crater with packed lunch for full game drives. Lunch will be taken at Ngoitoktok Picked site. Then drive back to Arusha town for dinner and Overnight stay at Mount Meru hotel/Gran Melia Arusha. Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken caldera nd home of thousands plain animals including big five, big number of carnivores such hyena, jackals and herbivores like buffalo, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, eland, gazelles and small mammals. Ngorongoro is also a multiple land use area where people, wildlife and livestock coexist. It is also a World Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve as well as the Geopark.
